Omnitron in the News

Research Triangle Park, NC, February 27, 2014 Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (www.sumitomoelectric.com) and Omnitron Systems (www.omnitron-systems.com) today announced the successful completion of interoperability testing of the DEMARC Auto-Configuration (DAC) process with Sumitomo’s FSU7100 DPoE™ Certified Series EPON Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Omnitron’s iConverter® GM4 Network Interface Demarcation Device. The DAC process provides automatic provisioning of the demarcation device for Carrier Ethernet services over DOCSIS® Provisioning of EPON (DPoE) networks. This successful interoperability demonstration verifies an end-to-end solution for automating DOCSIS provisioning of Carrier Ethernet business and mobile backhaul services.

“The interoperability between Sumitomo’s EPON OLT and the iConverter GM4 NID is another step towards accelerated DPoE deployments,” comments Rammy Bahalul, Omnitron’s vice president of marketing. “Cable MSOs can now leverage their existing DOCSIS OSS, the scalability of EPON, and the Service OAM functionality of the DEMARC to increase profitability from Carrier Ethernet services.”

“Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (SEL) is dedicated to the success of the EPON and DPoE environment. DPoE and DAC bring increased efficiencies to large scale commercial provisioning systems freeing our customers from Swivel Chair Provisioning and/or expensive proprietary customized solutions,” says Richard Rommes, SEL’s vice president of sales and business development for its Network Products division. “Achieving interoperability of the DAC process between SEL and Omnitron brings our customers one step closer to a fully automated commercial service provisioning process and exemplifies SEL’s dedication to the DPoE standard.”

When connected to the DAC-enabled Sumitomo EPON OLT and using a Small Form Pluggable DPoE Optical Network Unit (ONU), the iConverter GM4 retrieves the management channel and automatically provisions the Ethernet service. DPoE DAC eliminates lengthy on-site installation and streamlines service deployments for the lucrative small and medium business market. After the Ethernet service is activated, iConverter GM4 NIDs provide tools for optimizing service delivery and managing the customer experience throughout the life cycle of an Ethernet service. Built-in RFC 2544 and Y.1564 service testing validates throughput and enables quick deployment and circuit activation. ITU-T Y.1731 Performance Monitoring OAM probes measure service parameters and enable SLA monitoring and reporting, while the IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management provides instant fault notification and facilitates rapid remote fault isolation and recovery. The iConverter GM4 also supports ITU-T G.8032 and G.8031 Ring and Linear service protection to maximize service availability.

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave and Omnitron Systems will be demonstrating the DEMARC Auto-Configuration (DAC) process at CableLabs Winter Conference on March 3-4, 2014 in Atlanta, GA. DPoE and DOCSIS are trademarks of CableLabs®.
