Omnitron in the News

hybridnid_sm Light Reading Ethernet Europe, London, April 11, 2011 – Omnitron Systems, a leading provider of Ethernet demarcation and access products, today announced the deployment of the iConverter HybridNID™ as part of the EANTC Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect Showcase at Light Reading Ethernet Europe. Since February 2010, the Global Interconnect Showcase has been a forum for demonstrating how multiple service providers can be interconnected and deliver end-to-end Carrier Ethernet services across regions where neither provider can have complete network coverage.

The EANTC Global Interconnect Showcase included the deployment of an Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) service from London to Frankfurt. The Ethernet connection was established through Abovenet, Tinet and Teragate service provider networks. Interconnection between providers was facilitated by Equinix Ethernet exchanges in London and Frankfurt.

Omnitron participated in this complex service deployment by providing iConverter Network Interface Devices (NIDs), and the iConverter HybridNID. iConverter NIDs were installed at the customer premises and one NID was placed at an Ethernet Exchange. The iConverter HybridNID allowed multiple providers to collaborate and deliver Carrier Ethernet services through a single demarcation device.

The iConverter HybridNID provided independent SLA verification to multiple Service Providers delivering the one Ethernet service. With the iConverter HybridNID installed at the customer premises, both Service Providers and Wholesale Access Providers were able to securely and independently provision, manage and monitor their respective parts of the Ethernet service.

The HybridNID supports the features and functionality of a conventional NID and provides carrier-grade, MEF-certified Ethernet service demarcation. The HybridNID complies with IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management and ITU-T Y.1731 Performance Monitoring. These end-to-end Service OAM standards enable the efficient detection and rapid isolation of potential service problems enabling SLA assurance while reducing Operational costs (OPEX). “The HybridNID helped simplify the monitoring of the service traversing multiple operators by providing loss and delay measurements for each provider domain,” said Carsten Rossenhoevel, EANTC Managing Director.
