In the application below, a FlexPoint 10T/2 media converter is used to connect a Transportation Fare Validator that has an RJ-45 UTP port to the existing coax infrastructure. The FlexPoint 10T/2 converts the 10BASE-T RJ-45 connection from the Fare Validator to 10BASE-2 coax. At the head end, the FlexPoint 10T/2 installed in a high-density 14-Module chassis converts the coax back to UTP and provides connectivity to the Network Switch.

The FlexPoint 10T/2 converters can be installed as a standalone device up to 100m away from the Fare Validator, mounted on a 5-Module shelf (1U), or installed in a 14-Module powered chassis (2U) as seen above.

 

In this second application, FlexPoint 10T/2 media converters can be used to connect PLC devices in industrial and manufacturing environments. The FlexPoint 10T/2 are available in commercial (0 to 50°C) and wide (-40 to 60°C) temperature ranges to accommodate various installation environments.

The FlexPoint 10T/2 is a Half-Duplex 10BASE-T UTP to 10BASE-2 coax media converter that facilitates the connection of a coax segment to a 10BASE-T hub or workstation.

No manual configuration is required with the plug-and-play FlexPoint 10T/2. Connect the UTP and coax cables and the installation is complete.

The FlexPoint 10T/2 support distances up to 100m using category 3 cable and higher. The FlexPoint 10T/2 detects and corrects wiring polarity reversals, and features a crossover switch that facilitates connection to a hub or a workstation.

The FlexPoint 10T/2 features a BNC connector supporting 50 ohm cabling with distances up to 185m. Per IEEE 802.3 standard, up to 30 workstations can be attached to the coax segment. A termination switch provides a convenient 50 ohm cable termination.

Descriptions of the LED indicators are provided on the label for easy in-the-field installation and maintenance. The LEDs report the availability of power, port activity and link status, polarity reversal detection and correction, collision and jabbers.

FlexPoint modules can be mounted utilizing optional wall-mounting hardware or with DIN-rail mounting brackets. They can also be rack-mounted in a 5-Module shelf or in a high-density 14-Module, power-redundant Powered Chassis.

FlexPoint modules installed in the 5-Module shelf or used as standalone devices can be powered by an external AC to DC power adapter, or through the 5VDC chassis connector. Standalone modules can also be powered by attaching an external DC power supply (18-60VDC). When used in the 14-Module power-redundant Powered Chassis with any combination of AC and DC power supplies, the installed modules are powered via the 5VDC chassis connector.

The wide variety of FlexPoint mounting and power options provide flexible upgrade paths as network requirements change and grow.
