The iConverter® T1/E1 Provides Management at the Central Office or Customer Premises

10/100/1000 Copper to Gigabit Fiber ConvertersIrvine, CA, October 9, 2001 -- Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc., a premier manufacturer of fiber media converters for Enterprise LAN and Metropolitan Area networks, announced today the iConverter T1/E1 fiber converter module as the newest addition to Omnitron's iConverter product family. Targeting the needs of telecom ISPs, CLECs, ILECs and enterprise users that require Internet and voice access, the iConverter T1/E1 extends T1 or E1 trunk distances over fiber to 58 km and supports advanced network management for both the Central Office (CO) and Customer Premises (CPE). Omnitron is showcasing the T1/E1 iConverter at the ISPCon / The Last Mile Show at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV on October 9-11, 2001 in booth #3025.

The iConverter T1/E1 supports the ANSI, AT&T, ITU and ETSI standards along with AMI, B8ZS and HDB3 line codes. The iConverter T1/E1 is available with SC, ST, MT-RJ or LC fiber connectors for multimode or single-mode fiber and RJ45/RJ48 and BNC copper connectors with a built-in line crossover switch that eliminates the need for crossover cabling.

The iConverter T1/E1, like all the iConverter modules, is hot-swappable and uses a 19-unit, 2-unit or 1-unit chassis. The 19-unit, 2-U high SNMP managed chassis, which targets the central office (CO) and network core applications, comes with hot-swappable AC or 48VDC triple-redundant power supplies and can simultaneously house a variety of iConverter modules. The 2-unit SNMP managed chassis provides an AC or DC powered solution which is ideal for customer premises (CPE) or network's edge where it can house a remotely managed iConverter. The 1-unit, stand-alone chassis provides a non-managed low-cost solution similar to Omnitron's FlexPointTM T1/E1 converter.

The iConverter's hardware level diagnostic features include local loop-back, remote loop-back and all 1's insertion (AIS) mode for the copper or fiber ports. The local loop-back mode allows the installer to validate connectivity to local T1/E1 lines, while the remote loop-back feature allows the installer to validate an entire fiber segment including a pair of converters by controlling a remote T1/E1 unit.

The iConverter line is SNMP managed through Omnitron's NetOutlook™ stand-alone network management or through standard SNMP software like HP OpenView. The management feature enables the service provider to remotely configure or diagnose technical issues while minimizing the number of costly customer premises service calls. The diagnostic and management features of the iConverter make it an easy-to-install, easy-to-manage and cost effective solution for T1 or E1 over fiber deployment in any metropolitan or enterprise network.

Pricing and Availability

Available now, the iConverter T1/E1 carries a free lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) for the managed iConverter T1/E1 starts at $795. The MSRP for the iConverter 19-unit chassis is $695.
