Expanding SNMP managed iConverter® Ethernet fiber media converter line for Coax legacy, switch expansion and advanced port redundancy to support LAN and Metro applications.
COMNET 2003, Washington DC, January 27, 2003 – Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc., the premier manufacturer of fiber media converters for Local and Metropolitan Area Networks, announced today at COMNET 2003 the additions of new modules to its iConverter managed media converter product family. The iConverter product family has been expanded to include a 10Base-2 coax to 10Base-T UTP Converter, a 4-Port 10/100 Ethernet Switch and a Redundant Ethernet Fiber and UTP Converters. These new modules enhance user flexibility to integrate legacy and advanced technologies into a single seamless managed network.
The new modules join other iConverter media converters that provide copper to dual and single-fiber conversion for 10, 100, 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet as well as T1 and E1.
They also provide multimode to single-mode and dual fiber to single fiber conversion for Ethernet, T1, E1, OC-3 and OC-12 technologies. The iConverter products are in-band or out-of-band SNMP managed through Omnitron's NetOutlook™ stand-alone network management software or through any standard SNMP software like HP OpenView™.
The new iConverter 10T/2 module converts between 10Base-T twisted pair (UTP) and 10Base-2 coax LANs. The iConverter 10T/2 can connect coax segments to a 10Base-T hub or a switch, or to connect between two 10Base-T hubs via coax. The addition of this coax converter to the iConverter line allows the user to integrate older coax network segments seamlessly into a modern SNMP managed network.
The new iConverter 4Tx 10/100 switch module features four (4) 10/100Mbps UTP ports with individual port 10/100, half/full-duplex, and auto-negotiation configuration ability via hardware or remotely via software. When used in concert with other iConverter modules or with other 4Tx modules in a chassis, the 4Tx fits different user network capacity requirements at a Point of Presence (POP), Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), Multi-Tenant (MTU) and Network Edge (NE) applications where reliability, scalability and space are critical.
The new port-redundant iConverter Tx/2Fx and iConverter Tx/2Tx provide fiber and UTP hot backup link redundancy with switchover in 250 nanoseconds to support ultra-critical applications. Supporting dual and single-fiber options, these modules provide Enterprise and Metro network managers with an important new tool in supporting resilient network operations.
All iConverter modules are hot-swappable and support four mounting options. They can be rack mounted in a 2U, 3.5 inch high 19-module chassis, or a 1U, 1.75 inch high 5-module space-saving chassis, both supporting either 19-inch or 23-inch racks and any combination of redundant AC and 48VDC power supplies. All iConverter modules can also be mounted in a 2-module AC or 48VDC powered chassis or in a 1-module AC powered chassis for smaller installation requirements.
The iConverter products are in-band or out-of-band SNMP managed through Omnitron's NetOutlook stand-alone network management software or through standard SNMP software like HP OpenView™. The management feature enables the network administrator to remotely monitor and configure the iConverter units or diagnose technical problems while minimizing the number of costly remote service calls. The management agent generates traps to report special events such as module insertion or removal, link up or down, authentication violations and power and temperature range violations.
