Omnitron in the News

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Atlanta, GA – October 21, 2013 – (www.omnitron-systems.com) today announced the demonstration of the iConverter® GM4 PoE Network Interface Device (NID) at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo. The GM4 PoE is the first Carrier Ethernet 2.0 NID with integrated Power over Ethernet (PoE), that leverages DOCSIS and PON networks to directly power small cell equipment and reduce service providers' deployment costs.

Integrating CE 2.0 demarcation, PoE functions and support for DPoE/DAC into a compact device simplifies small cell deployments by eliminating need for power wiring to the cell, and therefore reduces the overall space, power and cost required for outdoor and indoor small cell deployments. The iConverter GM4 PoE NID supports the DEMARC Auto-Configuration (DAC) process. Defined by CableLabs®, the DAC process enables DEMARC devices to be automatically provisioned, streamlining the deployment of Carrier Ethernet services over DPoE networks.

"Cable MSOs can now leverage their existing DOCSIS OSS, the bandwidth scalability of EPON, Carrier Ethernet 2.0 functionality and Power Over Ethernet technology to accelerate profitable revenue growth from small cell services," said Rammy Bahalul, Omnitron's Vice President of Marketing. "We will demonstrate how the highly integrated iConverter GM4 PoE NID reduces operating costs associated with small cell deployments."

GM4 PoE NIDs are available in two PoE basic models; GM4-PoE+ and GM4-HPoE. Both models support the 802.3af PoE (15.4W) and 802.3at PoE+ (25.5W) standards per port, while the GM4-HPoE models also provide up to 60W of power per port. The GM4-PoE NIDs are available with full PoE power on up to four RJ-45 ports, and feature up to two SFP fiber ports that support G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Switching or EPON ONU interface.

Both the GM4-PoE+ and GM4-HPoE models can be managed using Omnitron's NetOutlook® EMS (Element Management System). With NetOutlook EMS, Service Providers can streamline the provisioning and management of thousands of small cell backhaul links with performance monitoring and fault management.

The GM4 PoE NIDs feature Zero-Touch Provisioning, ITU-T Y.1564 and RFC 2544 Service Activation Testing to simplify and automate large scale small cell deployments. Comprehensive support for ITU-T Y.1731 performance monitoring and hardware-based measurement with nanosecond resolution enable granular Service Level Agreement (SLA) assurances. IEEE 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management, and G.8031 linear protection switching and G.8032v2 ring protection switching enables the delivery of reliable services with uptime guarantees. This compact device with integrated PoE and advanced Carrier Ethernet 2.0 capabilities reduces operating costs, provides faster return on investment (ROI) and improves customer satisfaction.
