Omnitron Systems Technology, an Irvine-based designer and manufacturer of fiber optic networking technology, is seeking a Software Engineer.

The Software Engineer develops the embedded code which runs on OST's managed and unmanaged media converters. In the case of managed converters the software runs on a microprocessor or a microcontroller. Configurations range from simple stand-alone products through highly complex, multiple chassis, managed configurations. A strong background in computer networks with hands on experience in network device programming is required.


  • Knowledgeable in Ethernet switching technology and VLAN a must
  • Layer 2 and 3 networking technology including TCP/IP protocols
  • Experience with RTOS: embedded Linux strongly preferred
  • Strong embedded C programming language required, assembly language preferred
  • Strong experience with device drivers, diagnostics, and understanding of hardware devices
  • Proficient with in-circuit emulator
  • Broad knowledge of embedded processors (8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit)
  • Knowledgeable in SNMP and MIB development
  • Experience with embedded WEB service development
  • Familiar with test equipment and basic digital electronics
  • Experience working with FPGA platforms
  • Knowledgeable of telecom systems (T1, E1) and Metro Ethernet
  • Experienced in TDM over Ethernet (CESoE, SATOP) and Pseudo-wire related development a plus
  • BSCS degree and 10 years of experience
  • Strong logical and creative problem-solving skills, good oral and written communication skills, and excellent analytical skills

Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related discipline. Formal or on-the-job training in source code management systems such as Subversion (SVN) and task level project scheduling.

Technical Requirements:

  • 4 to 6 years experience in multi-tasking embedded C language software development for commercial network products
  • Hands-on experience with commercial embedded operating systems such as VxWorks, eCoS or Linux
  • Deep familiarity with Networking topologies and standards including IEEE 802.3 and TCP/IP, especially the lower layers
  • Media converter, switch, or router software development experience is highly desired, with switch or PHY chip level programming a real plus
  • Working knowledge of Broadcom and Marvell switch chip semiconductors
  • Embedded WEB UI and experience with Java Script programming preferred
  • Minimal supervision required, team player, strong oral and written language skills, structured programming skills

Managerial Experience: None required.

Technical leadership experience is a plus.
