Test Engineer/Technician

Omnitron Systems Technology, an Irvine-based designer and manufacturer of fiber optic networking technology, is seeking a Test Engineer/Technician.

The Test Engineer/Technician is responsible for development and execution of functional test suites for Omnitron Systems Technology, Inc. network products. Configurations range from simple stand-alone through highly complex, multiple chassis, managed configurations consisting of many different types of products of many hardware, firmware, and software revisions. The Test Engineer/Technician must have the ability to be flexible and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Determines the test criteria of each product based on product specifications and company standards, with input from development, marketing, and field support departments.
  • Develops comprehensive test plans and test procedures to verify products.
  • Provides input to product testing schedules, delivering weekly progress reports.
  • Performs software and hardware functional tests and prepares test reports.
  • Analyzes test results and provides support to hardware and software engineers in developing design changes.
  • Maintain test results, reports, and records.
  • Makes recommendations for the selection and purchase of hardware, software and services used in testing.

Job Requirements:

Education and Training - Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (BSCS/CE/SE/EE) or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Trained (formally or on-the-job) in current manual and automated tools and techniques, network technologies, topologies, and actual product usage in Telco and Computer Room environments.

Technical Requirements:

  • Three plus years experience in testing of complex, rapid time to market commercial network products.
  • In-depth knowledge and application of engineering principles and concepts
  • Demonstrated ability in product testing, working with design teams in developing test requirements, developing test plans, conducting tests and preparing test reports
  • Some programming skills desired (but not required) with any of the following languages: C++, Visual Basic, Java, or Perl.
  • High degree of self-initiative with ability to plan/manage tasks, conceptualize, implement, and validate solutions with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated analytic and empirical problem solving skills. "Zero Defects" attitude and approach, minimal supervision required, committed to finish all assignments according to deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communications skills. Expertise with MS Office.
  • Familiar with product development life cycle and ISO 9001 (desired, but not required).

Managerial Experience:

None required. Technical leadership experience is a plus.
