iConverter CWDM/X Multiplexer/Demultiplexer

Omnitron’s iConverter CWDM/X Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) Multiplexer/Demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) modules are protocol and rate transparent allowing different services up to 10Gbps each to be transported across the same fiber link. The small and compact size of the CWDM/X modules yields one of the highest port densities in the industry.

The passive iConverter CWDM/X modules are available in 4 and 8-Channel (wavelength) models, supporting a variety of wavelength combinations and port configurations. The Single-Fiber iConverter CWDM/X modules are available in 2 and 4-Channel models.


The CWDM/X features an optional Expansion Port that can be used to cascade two MUX/DEMUX modules, doubling the channel capacity on the common fiber link. The dual fiber CWDM/X also features an optional 1310nm Pass Band Port that can be used to overlay up to 8 CWDM channels on an existing legacy 1310nm network such as SDH or SONET.

iConverter CWDM/AD Add/Drop Multiplexer

iConverter CWDM/AD Add/Drop Multiplexer

iConverter CWDM/AD modules add (multiplex) and drop (demultiplex) selected channels, or wavelengths, on one or both directions of a CWDM fiber route. Using iConverter CWDM/AD modules, network designers can add new access points anywhere on a CWDM network, without impacting the remaining channels on the network.

The iConverter 1-Channel CWDM/AD modules multiplex and demultiplex one specific CWDM channel from the common single-fiber or fiber pair CWDM link. Eighteen models of the 1-Channel CWDM/AD are available to support all CWDM wavelengths specified by ITU-T G.694.2, ranging from 1270nm to 1610nm.


The iConverter 2-Channel CWDM/AD modules offer the same functions as 1-Channel CWDM/AD modules but for two specific CWDM channels for fiber pair links. Models are available to support any two wavelengths from 1270nm to 1450nm, or any two wavelengths from 1470nm to 1610nm.

FlexPoint GX/T

The FlexPoint GX/T is a 10/100/1000BASE-T UTP to 1000BASE-X fiber media converter that supports jumbo frames up to 10,240 bytes. The GX/T features fixed fiber connectors or Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceivers that support both 100BASE-FX and 1000BASE-X for interoperability with Gigabit and Fast Ethernet fiber equipment.  SFPs enable adaptability to different fiber types, speed and distances, and support Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technology to increase the bandwidth capacity of fiber infrastructure. The GX/T supports a variety of testing and fault detection tools are provided for easy installation and troubleshooting, and provides LED status notifications.

miConverter GX/T

miConverter GX/T

The miConverter GX/T is a miniature 10/100/1000BASE-T UTP to 1000BASE-X fiber media converter that supports jumbo frames and Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceivers.  The GX/T can be powered by a USB port, supporting fiber-to-the-desktop deployment without the need of an electrical outlet. The miConverter GX/T is also available with an external AC power supply, and is available in US or a variety of International models. The GX/T supports a variety of testing and fault detection tools are provided for easy installation and troubleshooting, and provides LED status notifications.

Omnitron Improves Security of Carrier Ethernet NIDs with SNMPv3

The iConverter family of MEF certified Network Interface Devices and managed media converters now supports the Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3). SNMP is an interoperable standards-based protocol for network management, and SMNPv3 provides secure access to network devices by a combination of authenticating and encrypting packets over the network.

Security, authentication and encryption are important factors in the management mission-critical Enterprise networks and Service Provider networks delivering Carrier Ethernet Business Services.

Omnitron’s implementation of SNMPv3 provides protection by adding an additional layer of intelligence to its managed devices, thereby preventing attackers from gaining access and affecting the network’s infrastructure, configuration and operation. SNMPv3 provides this with several important security features:

  • Message integrity to ensure that a packet has not been tampered with while in transit.
  • Authentication to verify that the message is from a valid source.
  • Encryption of packets to prevent snooping by an unauthorized source.

Other iConverter security features for network management include 802.3ah OAM encrypted management, and IP-less management, which eliminates the need for an IP address at the demarcation device.

iConverter xFF Universal Fiber to Fiber Media Converters

The new iConverter xFF is a protocol-transparent media converter that provides reliable and cost-effective conversion between different wavelengths, multimode and single-mode, and dual and single-fiber networks. As networks continue to evolve, media converters such as the xFF can be the best choice for optimizing costs while adding functionality and speed.

The iConverter xFF operates as a protocol and rate-transparent device, supporting data rates of 1Mbps to 1.25Gbps by selecting the appropriate Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceivers. The xFF supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, OC-3 and OC-12 SONET.


There is no manual configuration required with the plug-and-play iConverter xFF. Simply connect the fiber cables to the appropriate interface and the installation is complete. Distances can be extended up to 140km on single-mode or 5km on multimode fiber, depending on the speed and protocol supported on the installed SFP transceiver.

iConverter xFF modules can be remotely managed via SNMP management accessed by Omnitron’s NetOutlook network management software, third-party SNMP management software, or Telnet.

NEW iConverter X21 Serial to Fiber Media Converters

 

SFP to SFP Managed Protocol-Transparent Fiber Converter

The new iConverter X21serial-to-fiber media converter transmits serial data over fiber optic cabling that extends network links up to 120 kilometers. The iConverter X21 is available as a chassis plug-in module, and as a compact standalone unit. It features several configuration modes to enable connections with a wide variety of X.21 and RS-530 devices.

The iConverter X21 is designed for demanding applications where security, performance and reliability are critical. The X21 provides the reliability and connectivity features necessary for a wide variety of enterprise and military applications, including controlling radar installations from remote distances.


X21 features include:

  • A plug-and-play design, with auto-configuration of baud rates
  • Local loop-back for easy testing of fiber and serial interfaces
  • Support for multimode, single-mode/dual-fiber and single-mode/single-fiber applications
  • The ability to extend network distances to up to 120 km over single-mode fiber connections, up to 40 km over single-mode/dual-fiber and up to 5 km over multimode

iConverter T1/E1 and T3/E3 Media Converters

The iConverter T1/E1 and T3/E3 media converters are carrier-grade products designed to give telecoms, cable operators, utilities and enterprises the flexibility to provide different services over existing fiber access infrastructure, thereby reducing costs and creating additional revenue opportunities.

The enhancements to the iConverter T1/E1 and T3/E3 media converters include support for small form pluggable (SFP) transceivers, which allow the media converters to increase the bandwidth capacity of fiber access infrastructure by incorporating Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technology.


The iConverter T1/E1 and T3/E3 media converters feature a built-in fiber tester for diagnosis of the remote unit, eliminating the cost of external hardware or support personnel at each end of a link. The converters' SFP support enables adaptability to different fiber types and distances, providing maximum flexibility across a variety of network architectures and topologies. They can be remotely managed via SNMP management accessed by Omnitron's NetOutlook network management software, third-party SNMP management software, or Telnet.
